You drive on the left side, while vehicles have U.S.-style left steering wheels. Most visitors adjust quickly.
Is driving in St. Thomas & St. John difficult?
Roads are steep, narrow, and winding. With a Jeep 4×4, driving is much easier—just go slow, especially in rain or at night.
Is St. Thomas safe to drive around?
Yes. Tourist areas are safe, and the islands are easy to explore. Avoid leaving valuables in the Jeep.
Do you need a Jeep or rental car?
Absolutely recommended. Taxis are expensive, and rideshare apps like Uber/Lyft do not operate in the USVI.
Is parking easy on the islands?

Can I take the Jeep to St. John?
Absolutely. All our Jeeps are fully permitted and approved for the Red Hook car barge. Explore both islands freely.
Are you available in case of emergencies?
Yes. We are available 24/7 for emergency assistance, breakdown support, or guidance.
Do I need a 4x4 vehicle?
Yes. Both islands have steep hills and uneven terrain. A Jeep 4×4 ensures safety, comfort, and full access to beaches and trails.
Do I need an international driver’s license?
No. A valid U.S. or foreign license is all you need.
Are Jeeps open-top or hard-top?
We offer both soft-top and hard-top options depending on availability. We also show you how to secure the top if rain comes.
How does the St. John car ferry work?
Drive to Red Hook, pay the barge fee, and board the next available ferry (runs every hour). The crossing takes about 20 minutes.
Is GPS reliable on island roads?
Yes, but St. John has a few low-signal areas. We recommend saving offline maps.
What about gas stations?
St. Thomas has multiple stations. St. John has fewer—keep your tank above half when exploring remote areas.
Do you offer insurance?
No, we require you to provide your own stateside auto insurance policy. Some credit cards offer rental coverage, but not all include the USVI—check in advance.
Are there hidden fees?
Never. Rock City Rentals is transparent with all pricing and policies.
Do you provide add-ons?
We can offer beach gear (coolers, chairs) based on availability.
Car Seats are available as well for a small fee during your entire stay.
What’s the minimum age to rent?
25 years old, though 21+ allowed with insurance add-ons.
What should I avoid when parking the Jeep?
- Don’t park on vegetation, sand dunes, or “No Parking” zones
- Don’t leave valuables in the vehicle
- At beaches, avoid soft sand to prevent getting stuck

What currency is used?
The U.S. Dollar. Credit cards widely accepted.
Do restaurants include gratuity?
